The cricket formats Bangladesh fans love

Cricket is more than a sport in Bangladesh — it is a feeling. bdjl offers betting markets across these three main formats:

T20 — the fastest format. Each team faces just 20 overs, so the game can turn at any moment. BPL, IPL, and the ICC T20 World Cup are the three tournaments most familiar to fans in Bangladesh. T20 is especially popular for betting because markets update quickly and there are more live betting opportunities.

ODI — the fifty-over format is a bit slower in pace, but the tension is no less. ODI betting draws particular interest in knockout matches of major tournaments.

Test — betting markets in five-day cricket are different. A draw is a possible result here, so odds are set against three outcomes (Team A wins, Team B wins, draw).

Football and other sports alongside cricket

bdjl is not limited to cricket. Betting markets are available for football and several other popular sports. However, there are some differences between the betting structure for cricket and football.

Every football match has three possible outcomes — home win, away win, and draw. This 1X2 market is the most familiar betting type in football. Test cricket also has the possibility of a draw, but T20 and ODI matches generally end with a definite result.

Cricket has markets specific to the sport — over/under (total runs), and time of wicket fall. Football has markets around number of goals or corner kicks. The betting markets for the two sports are completely different, so experience in one does not mean the same approach works in the other.

Popular betting markets in cricket — how each one works

The following markets are available for cricket matches at bdjl. Each works a little differently.

Match Winner

The simplest market. You pick which of the two teams will win. In T20 and ODI, a tie goes to a Super Over, so a winner is almost always determined.

Simplest market

Toss

Bet on the outcome of the toss before the match starts. You can bet on either team. The result is a straight 50-50, so odds are usually roughly even.

Settled before the match

Top Batsman

Which batsman will score the most runs in an innings or across the whole match. It is better to look at statistics rather than just picking a name.

Player-based market

Total Runs Over/Under

You choose whether the total runs scored in a specific innings or the whole match will be more (over) or less (under) than a set number. Example: Team A's innings over 160 runs.

Runs-based market

Multi Bet

Combine the results of multiple matches or markets into a single bet. If all selections are correct, the return is much higher — but if any one is wrong, the entire bet is lost. Read the full multi bet rules

Multiple selections

Method of First Wicket

Bet on how the first wicket of the match will fall — bowled, caught, run out, or another method. Odds are set according to the likelihood of each method.

Cricket-specific market

On bdjl's multi bet market, you can add multiple matches to the same ticket. If all selections are correct, you receive a return at the combined odds. Full multi bet rules and examples are available on the multi bet page.

How to read odds — three formats

bdjl and most betting sites display odds in three formats: decimal, fractional, and American. All three convey the same information — only the way they are written differs.

Example 1 — the same odds in three formats:
Team A wins, bet ৳500. Decimal 2.50 = Fractional 3/2 = American +150.
If the bet wins, return is ৳1,250 (৳750 profit + ৳500 original stake).
If the bet loses, ৳500 is gone.

Decimal odds are the easiest to read — multiply by the stake to get the total return. In fractional odds, the number on the right is the stake and the number on the left is the profit. In American format, a "+" sign means profit on a ৳100 bet, while a "−" sign means how much you need to stake to win ৳100.

Example 2 — odds for the favourite:
Team B wins. Decimal 1.50 = Fractional 1/2 = American −200.
American "−200" means you need to stake ৳200 to win ৳100 profit.
On a ৳500 bet, the return is ৳750 (৳250 profit).

The lower the decimal odds, the more that outcome is considered a "favourite" — meaning it is seen as more likely to happen. Odds of 1.01 are near-certain, but the profit is also very small.

Live Betting — odds shift the moment a wicket falls

Betting that takes place after a match has started is called live or in-play betting. In cricket, live betting is especially engaging because the situation can change after every ball.

  • When a wicket falls: the batting team's odds rise (meaning their chances of winning are considered lower), while the bowling team's odds shorten.
  • After a big over: if the batting team scores quickly, their odds of winning shorten — meaning they become the favourite.
  • As overs run out: when pressure builds to increase the run rate late in the innings, match winner market odds can shift quickly.
  • Weather and pitch: odds are adjusted if rain causes an interruption or the pitch is wet.
  • Betting suspension: betting may be briefly suspended between each ball or over.

Practical points to keep in mind for cricket betting

Betting is one form of entertainment, not a guaranteed source of income. Keeping the following in mind makes for a better experience:

  • Set a budget: decide from the start how much money you will spend on betting. Do not go beyond that limit.
  • Understand the market: start with match winner, as it is the simplest. Before moving to a new market, read its rules carefully.
  • Understand the format: T20 and Test betting are completely different. Having experience in one does not mean you can carry the same approach directly into the other.
  • Keep emotions out of it: always betting on your favourite team is not a good habit. Make decisions based on the match situation.
  • Do not chase losses: trying to recover losses immediately by placing a bigger bet after a loss often leads to more trouble.
  • Play responsibly: if needed, visit bdjl's responsible gaming page — it has information on setting limits and getting support.
If you bet regularly, you can join bdjl's VIP programme — weekly cashback benefits are available across three tiers: Bronze, Silver, and Gold.

Common questions about cricket betting at bdjl

T20 matches finish in a few hours, so live betting markets shift quickly and over/under markets are popular. ODI is a bit slower-paced, but offers more variety in markets. In Test cricket, a draw is a possible result — so the match winner market has three options. Live betting in Test is slower, but session betting (which team leads a session) adds its own interest.

If a match does not complete at least a minimum portion of the scheduled overs, it is generally declared abandoned and bets are voided with stakes returned. However, if a result is determined by the Duckworth-Lewis method, bets remain active. Specific terms can be found on bdjl's terms and conditions page.

Both BPL and IPL are T20 format, so the core betting markets are the same — match winner, toss, top batsman, over/under, and so on. However, the number of markets available and the odds may differ depending on the scale and profile of each tournament. Larger tournaments generally have more markets.

No. Decimal odds of 1.50 means that result is considered the favourite — it is seen as relatively more likely to happen. But no odds guarantee a future outcome. In cricket, the situation can change at any moment.

No, not all markets are open at all times. Certain markets are briefly suspended between each ball or over. When a wicket falls or at key moments, markets are temporarily closed to recalculate odds. In the final few overs of a match, some markets close permanently.
